We've got your weekend: Opera, whiskey, and a 'Parks and Rec' Quiz
Thursday / Whiskey dinner : CBD restaurant Tivoli & Lee (2 Lee Circle) hosts a four-course, whiskey dinner. Each course of the Southern meal -- including plates such as short ribs with pretzel knodel and gruyere fondue, as well a warm crawfish dip -- will be paired with a whiskey-based cocktail. The meal is $65 per person (inclusive of all food, drinks and valet parking). The dinner is available for guests between 6 - 10 p.m. Reservations available here.
Thursday - Sunday / Contemporary dance : For three nights, dance school and community Dancing Grounds (3703 St. Claude Avenue) presents two new contemporary dance performances, arranged by New Orleans-based choreographers and upcoming DG Artists-In-Residence program Maritza Mercado-Narcisse and Meryl Murman. Mercado-Narcisse will present “The Agency,” and Murman will present “The Lipstick,” a male quartet with live violin accompaniment.
The performances will be held from 7:30 - 9 p.m. each day. Tickets are $20 general admission / $15 for students, Artists and Dancing Grounds members.
One of Louisiana's best modern Cajun bands kicks of a three-night run through Louisiana with a rowdy show at their favorite local haunt. Violent Femmes frontman Gordon Gano will be along for the ride, sitting in with the band and adding yet another layer to the Ramblers' incredibly varied sound. Saturday / Parks and Rec quiz : Parks and Rec officiandos will have a chance to prove their ultimate fandom at a Geeks Who Drink quiz at Twelve Mile Limit (500 Telemachus Street) at 6 p.m. The quiz will cover all 7 seasons of the show (most of which are available on Netflix, in case you need to cram before the mega-quiz). Participation is $5 per person (teams capped at 6); brews will be available for purchase. Register the day of at the event. The winning team will receive a cash prize from the registration fee pot.
Sunday / Opera Roundtable discussion : The New Orleans Opera hosts a special roundtable discussion featuring guests from current Opera “Lucia Di Lammermoor.” Following the discussion, guests will enjoy an assortment of Scottish snacks. The event will be held at the Women’s Guild Home (2504 Prytania) from 4 - 6 p.m. Participation is $25 Women’s Guild Members & Junior Committee Members / $30 Non-Members / $40 Couples from the same household.
