Wednesday, May 31-June 2/Birdfoot Festival: It is that time of year again, the time when musicians from all over the world get together to play chamber music. Bars, universities, and cafes will be filled with Birdfoot musicians, and “Per Aspera, Ad Astra,” will be taking over Cafe Istanbul from 8:00 PM until 11:00 PM. Many concerts will fill the venues of New Orleans from now until June 2, so check out Birdfoot’s website for a full schedule. The tickets for “Per Aspera, Ad Astra,” are $20 (general) and $15 (students), and they can be purchased here.

Wednesday May, 31-June 25/Southern Rep Theater: Starting on Wednesday, you can dive back into history with Southern Rep’s performance of Father Comes Home From the Wars (Parts 1, 2, &3). How far back in history? To West Texas, 1862. The play circulates around “Hero,” who is promised his freedom from slavery in exchange for his service in the Civil War—on the Confederate side. He leaves behind his community, his father, and the woman he loves for what may be an empty promise; what he finds on the front lines might make it impossible for him to return home the same man. The performances be Thursdays through Saturdays starting at 8:00 PM and on Sundays starting at 3:00 PM. All performances will be held at Loyola University’s Marquette Hall (6363 St. Charles Ave.). Wednesday, May 31-June 4/ Antenna Gallery: In conjunction with the Wetlands Art Tour, Ricki Ella Bratcher is creating an “alternative wetland” installation full of invasive and exotic plants made from found objects, paper, and trash. Bratcher’s exhibit, “The Earth is Round,” is currently on display at Antenna (3718 St. Claude Ave), and this is the final weekend of the show. Thursday, June 1/New Orleans Edge Film Festival: The best short film of 2016-2017 are hitting the screen at Zeitgeist Theater (1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd) for NOLA Edge Film Festival. This festival is hosted by festival curator Natalie Phillips, and the festival not only includes films but also performing arts and photography submissions. The festival begins at 6:00 PM.
