We've got your weekend: Growing from poetry to move toward parties

Wednesday, December 14/BJs in the Bywater(4301 Burgundy): Say it with me, "Blood Jet Poetry Series." The name of the event is not half as amazing as the two women who will be reading at in on Wednesday. Jerika Marchan and Jen Karenick will both be reading their original work, starting at 8:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. To find out more about the event, you can check out the details here.

Thursday, December 15/Propeller (4035 Washington Ave): There are times to be moved, and there are times to stand your ground. "Moved" is the theme for Bring Your Own, which will be taking place this Thursday from 7:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The happy hours begins at 7:30 with drinks by Roz+Calz with a band as well as food. The stories begin at 8:00 p.m., and the afterparty begins at 9:00 p.m. For more information, you can check out the event here.

Friday, December 16/Finn McCools (3701 Banks Street): We all have holiday parties filling our calendars, and we want to give a special shout-out to Finn McCool's holiday party because this is organized with all of the classics in mind. At 7:00 p.m. there will be sandwiches provided by Finns, and they are asking that you bring some goodies for their Super Sweet Potluck. Bring in your tastiest treat and they'll put you on the nice list and reward you with a free drink. At 9:00 p.m. the Ugly Sweater Contest begins, so get ready to show those jumpin' jumpers and don't be late to the cardi party. Also, don't forget that all night long there will be Karaoke. You can be the star atop the tree and it's your chance to shine! See why we're shouting out this holiday party? For more information about the soiree, you can check out the details here.

Sunday, December 18/Southbound Gardens (4221 S. Robertson): In case you have ever wanted to turn your yard into a compost area, your dreams are about to come true thanks to Southbound Gardens. Learn how easy it is to compost at your house or troubleshoot your current compost pile. Also, worm composting and compost tea will be covered in this workshop, which they are asking a $10 donation for upon entry. The workshop takes place during the weekly Sunday plant sale at the greenhouse so go on out and grab some plants while you're there - herb and veggie plants start at $2, or a whole flat of 18 can be purchased for $25! For more information on the event, you can check it out here.
