Wednesday, January 20/RAW New Orleans presents, FUTURES: RAW:Natural Born Artists is an independent arts organization that hand-selects and spotlights independent creatives in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair & makeup artistry, photography, and performing art all over the world, including the Crescent City. On Wednesday night they are taking over Republic NOLA (828 S. Peters Street) and turning it into an art dance night. The event starts at 7:00 PM, and tickets are $20 via presale and $25 at the door. Thursday, January 21/The Old No. 77 Hotel and Where Y'Art presents "Unveiled Part Two: Works of Leroy Miranda Jr.": In collaboration together, The Old No.77 Hotel and Where Y'Art present a collection of 25 contemporary mixed media portraits on paper, panel and canvas that have been assembled using found objects, oil paint, ink, flash paint, oil pastels, dirt, collage, acrylic and dry pigment. The focus of the show will be Leroy Miranda Jr., a self-taught artist born and raised in New Orleans, who explores the themes of culture and identity in works that can be found in over a dozen private collections and the L.S.U. Thursday, January 21/Hi-Ho Lounge presents "Circus Darling": Circus Darling is a sexy circus cabaret bizarre celebrating the whimsically strange and markedly unusual with a fantastic lack of restraint. Featuring a rotating cast of burlesque, vaudevillian circus arts, aerial acts, acrobats, incomprehensible magic and tip-top variety entertainers from across the nation alongside your favorite New Orleans stars. The show is located at the Hi-Ho Lounge (2239 St. Claude). The doors open at 9:00 PM and the show starts at 10:00 PM. Tickets range from $12 to $17, and you can purchase them here.
Thursday, January 21/The Old Ironworks puts on "Bring Your Own Delicious": Pizza Delicious is teaming up with narrative storytelling forum Bring Your Own for a night of greasy, cheesy, and unbeatably satisying stories. Not only will you fill your stomach and your ears, but you will also be helping out BYO. Pizza Delicious is donating 15% of all dinner sales to BYO that night! Go eat at Pizza Delicious anytime after 4pm, and you support Pizza Delicious and BYO! The live storytelling will begin at 7:30 PM with the BYO happy hour with Roz+Ol' Cals+Leggy & music by Lost in the Holler. Friday, January 22/Bayou Beer Garden presents "2nd Annual Drunken Spelling Bee": Here's how it works, it's $20 to participate in the spelling bee. For every word you spell correctly you take a shot of a mixed drink donated by Bayou Beer Garden. Spell four words correctly and you make your money back in shots. If you are not the world's best speller (before or after drinks), don't worry. If you spell a word incorrectly you can always jump back in for $10. That will buy you another round! Local comedian, Geoffrey Gauchet, will host the spelling bee, and the proceeds go toward sending between ten and twelve 4th-6th grade SciTech Academy students to a leadership summer camp. Saturday, January 23/The streets of New Orleans for Krewe de Vieux: No explanation needed! Be in the Quarter, be ready for some debauchery, and just let that parade roll over, through, and all around your sensual pleasures! The parade begins at 6:30 PM on the corner of Franklin Ave. and Royal Street. To map out your location, here is a visual of where the parade rolls.
Saturday, January 23-Sunday, January 24/Hollywood Thrift: We all know that Mardi Gras is coming! This weekend is Krewe de Vieux, and it'll be no time before the rest of the parades are rolling through our streets.
