We've got your weekend: 2016 is still kicking
Friday, December 30/The Firebird (2706 Olive Street): There are some favorite duos in town, and Quintron and Miss Pussycat always take on the role of the "day before duo." Their usual slot during Mardi Gras is a show on Lundis Gras night, and now they are playing the night before New Years Eve. In other words, they really know what it means to get a party started. They'll be playing on Friday, December 30 at 8:00 p.m. (doors). The tickets will run you $10 in advance or $12 at the door. You can purchase tickets here, and then get ready to dance and sweat the night away.
Friday, December 30/Castillo Blanco Art Studios (4321 St. Claude): In regard to deaths, 2016 has been a hard one for many of us. People have taken to the streets to honor their musicians, poets, family members, and activists who have lost their lives this year. Another parade of honor is happening this weekend. The Leijorettes are going to lead the The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus in a Tribute Parade thru the Bywater to a beautiful celebration of Carrie Fisher's life and all of our other fallen heros from 2016 at Castillo Blanco Art Studios. The parade begins at 4:00 p.m., and if you'd like to help pay for the $1000 permit fee, you can send a donation via Paypal to: email@example.com. Otherwise, march on!
Saturday, December 31/All over the city: No matter if you are looking to spend some cash and get fancy or keep New Years low key and low cost, the city is booming with options. You can check out some highlighted events here, and if music is your main priority when saying goodbye to 2016, then make sure to check out Shane Colman's live music guide for NYE as well as Wesley Hodges live music letter.
Sunday, January 1/Antenna Gallery (3718 St. Claude): What better way to ring in the new year and assuage any possible remnants of celebrating the end of 2016 than with a poetry reading? Room 220 presents readings from Lauren Levin and Elizabeth Gross at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 1 at the Antenna Gallery. And if you are looking to cure a hungry hangover, they will have black-eyed peas, greens, and pineapple upside down cake to commemorate the end of 2016 and celebrate the beginning of a new year.
