We got your weekend: pub crawls, steamboats and swing

THURSDAY / Culture shock: Kick off your weekend with a panel presented by WWNO. New Orleans has received national attention for its emerging entrepreneurial community, but how does it affect the culture? Join Shamarr Allen, Richard Campanella, Ellis Marsalis, Katy Reckdahl, and Mike Valentino as they talk about authenticity, culture, and progress. Doors open at 7 p.m. Thursday, with event at 7:30, at The Mintz Center, 912 Broadway.

FRIDAY / Bust a move: Break out your short shorts and sweat bands for the 610 Stomper’s 4th annual pub crawl, a Streetcar Named da’Fire. The 610 Stompers are as revered for their porn-staches and smooth dancing as much as their philanthropic efforts. This pub crawl is one of the many ways they give back to the New Orleans community. Join the ordinary men with extraordinary moves for some good times and great moves to benefit Team Gleason. The fun starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tchoupitoulas and Lyons; get the details here.

SATURDAY / Rolling on the river: The steamboat Natchez is hosting a discounted family cruise this weekend. Bring the little ones along for face painting, caricatures, and pirates. Though typically more of a tourist attraction, this event is aimed towards locals. Spend the afternoon floating the Mississippi as a family. Happy kids equal happy parents. Boarding begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, and tickets start at $15 for adults, $7.50 for children 6-12 and kids under 6 ride free. Click here for reservations.

SATURDAY / It don’t mean a thing: The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park hosts educational programming almost every day. This weekend brings free swing dance lessons, jazz yoga, live brass, and live piano jazz. Trade in your flip flops for dancing shoes and cut a rug through the French Quarter. Events are planned trom 10 to 5 Saturday; get the schedule here.
