VIDEO: 'The New Movement Theater'
As demonstrated by the roaring success of SNL skits and improv television shows such as Whose Line is it Anyway?, people love improv theater.
Fortunately for improv fanatics in New Orleans, Austin-born comedy theater The New Movement Theater has been bringing fantastic sketch, improv, and standup shows, as well as a slew of improv classes to the Big Easy since 2010.
Co-founder Tami Nelson explained that the theater's intention was always to open a studio in New Orleans."It's a warm, fuzzy, positive art form," Nelson says. People outside of the acting community have started taking improv classes at The New Movement Theatre for more than acting -- they're building life skills that Nelson says translate to the real world.
A new location is opening in the St.Claude art district that will include a theater as well as more of a campus, with an office, bar, audio studio and several classrooms.
Noell Dominick, a film student in the Department of Film and Theatre at the University of New Orleans, produced a short documentary about The New Movement Theater's expansion.
