Video: Life lessons at 'Liberty's Kitchen'
Liberty's Kitchen dishes out a product with a purpose: The non-profit establishment's espresso bar and full-service kitchen not only deliver from-scratch meals, but also teach barista and culinary skills to the city's under-served youth.
"We're not necessarily trying to create chefs, we're creating employable young people," executive director Janet Davas explained in an interview with Gambit. "The kitchen provides such a great training ground for that. You have to manage stress and deadlines, You have to be reliable and work in teams and depend on each other."
In his short documentary "Liberty's Kitchen," UNO film student Tyler Mott talks with Program Manager Dennis Bagneris about what they do, how they do it, and what they accomplish in the red raised cottage at 422 1/2 South Broad Street.
