UNO documentary: Bon Operatit!

Bon Operatit!, a well-seasoned trio of classical singers, takes opera to the masses. New Orleans opera singers Jesse Nolan, Lauren Mouney Gisclair and Mary Penick Akin serve up a pitch-perfect pairing of opera and musical theater hits in diverse venues.

Bon Operatit! launches a new series, Mozart, Martinis and Music, from 7 to 9 PM  Wednesday, Aug.14, in the Puccini Bar at Four Points By Sheraton, 541 Bourbon Street. The free concerts will take place every other Wednesday night at the hotel on the corner of Toulouse and Bourbon Streets, which is the site of the French Opera House. It stood for 60 years as the cultural center of New Orleans Creole society, and was the first opera house in the United States.

In "Bon Operatit! Bringing Opera to the Big Easy," UNO film student Elyxzedra Arendt interviews the singers and drops in on a Bourbon Street performance.

The Film and Theatre Department of UNO and NolaVie present this series of short films produced by the students in Laszlo Fulop's documentary class. Read Renee Peck's column about the program here.
