The Vie Side: Round-the-Clock Music, Nintendo Burlesque, Zombie Runs

ALL WEEKEND / After the show, it’s the afterparty: LMB NOLA Pick of the Week: You want the tasty musical treats this Halloween season? Well, New Orleans provides quite a bit of love when it comes to that – the 2012 Voodoo Experience is nearly upon us, and that means music galore! Enjoy your Ritual this weekend with huge acts such as Metallica, Neil Young and Crazy Horse (here at LMB NOLA, we’re most excited about this fine man), and Jack White, including tons of other inspiring acts. And if you can’t happen to make it into the festival, there are tons of late night shows all around town this weekend. Our pick is the Dumpstaphunk and Rebirth Brass Band late night jam at Howlin’ Wolf on Friday night, which is sure to be one of the best live shows of 2012!

Boobs and Goombas

FRIDAY—SATURDAY / Super Smash: Ever sit at home playing video games and think that the one thing missing is sexy ladies? Head over to the Shadowbox Theater this weekend for “Boobs and Goombas: A Super Mario Burlesque.” In its closing weekend, this is your last opportunity to see your favorite fictional mustachioed Italians find Princess Peach. Just like in the video game, if the players get enough coins (or dollars), an alternative ending is unlocked, so don’t forget your wallet. Shadowbox Theater, 2400 St. Claude, 11 PM, $15 GA.

FRIDAY—SATURDAY / Old Hickory: Andrew Jackson may have a checkered legacy, but it is undeniable that he is one of the top 5 most hardcore presidents the United States has ever had. This weekend and next, Mid-City Theatre presents Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, a rock and roll musical fitting to Old Hickory, tracing his roots from backwoods Tennessee to Commander-in-Chief.  Even for those with soft spots for School House Rock, this is still likely to be your favorite, and most adult, history lesson of all time. Mid-City Theater, 3540 Toulouse St., $35 GA.

SUNDAY / Fall behind. Get eaten.: New Orleans is known for its themed races, but this may be the first where participants get to decided if they want to be alive or undead. In the Zombie 5K, runners wear flags symbolizing health. It’s the zombies’ job to remove them. Zombies may look slow in movies, but you’re sure to hit a new personal best running from these tricky corpses. Earn those Halloween Snickers running for your life at Nola Motorspots Park Sunday morning. Nola Motorsports Park, 8 AM Packet Pick Up, Zombie $10, Runner $30.
