The Vie Side: Literary Happy Hours, Park Yoga, Russian Symphonies

FRIDAY / First you take a drink…: Press Street 220 brings you two things that so naturally go together: writers and alcohol. This Friday, in partnership with South Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and Poets and Writers, Press Street is hosting a Happy Hour Salon from 6-8 PM. This reading features Ottessa Moshfegh, a prolific young short story writer, and Carlus Henderson, a Zell Fellow at the MFA program at University of Michigan. The event is free and open to the public.

SATURDAY / Aural pleasures: The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra is seeing red with an all Russian performance. The concert, featuring Stostakovich’s Symphony No. 9, also celebrates the return of famed violist Roberto Diaz. Beyond being a renowned performer, Diaz is a music educator, holding the President and CEO position at the Curtis Institute of Music.  Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here or at the door at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.

Park Yo Mat

SATURDAY / Park it: With spring approaching in full swing, take your work out outside with Park Yo Mat. Park Yo Mat is a community yoga series held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings from 10-11 AM on the Magazine side of Audubon Park. Whether you’re still not sure what downward dog is or rocking shoulder stands like a pro, at $5 per class, there’s no reason not to enjoy a beautiful day doing tree poses among the oaks.

SATURDAY / Suck the head: Get your crustacean crawl on this Saturday at the Crawfish and Bluegrass Pub Crawl. Drink your way through the Warehouse District at Lucy’s Ernst Café, and Rio Mar Seafood, then finish up at the Rusty Nail where live bluegrass, the NCAA finals, and 600 lbs. of crawfish will be waiting for you. Tickets are $35 per person and include three drinks, crawfish, and drink specials.
