Friday / Je ne sais quoi : This Friday kicks off the 15th New Orleans French Film Festival. Presented by the New Orleans Film Society and the Consulat General de France a la Nouvelle-Orleans, it is a 6 day long series showing many of Frances’s most notable films and stars. Because the films are presented in French with English subtitles, it’s the perfect date opportunity; you can be surrounded by the language of love and still understand the plot (and don’t forget, the French bistro Crepe Nanou is right around the corner). The festival kicks off Friday, August 10, with the romantic musical drama Beloved, and continues daily through August 16. Prytania Theater, 5339 Prytania St.

Friday / Band on the run : Live Music Blog: Nola Pick of the Week: Music fans looking for the next big thing should head to the Maple Leaf this Friday night to rock out amidst the slew of sound from the Austin-based, ear-thieving Band of Heathens. Get ready for a spit-polished, high-energy performance and versatile delivery of everything from deep, harrowing soul to swamp rock. Known for giving it all they’ve got, this five-piece band doesn’t just bang out music; they put on a show. Maple Leaf Bar, 8316 Oak St.

Saturday / Class in session : Big Class is celebrating its first three book projects with an exhibition this weekend at HomeSpace in the St. Claude Arts District. The New Orleans-based organization publishes books written and illustrated by public school children. Big Class motivates children to create original work, in addition to fostering collaboration within the artistic community at large. This exhibition features work of 59 elementary school students and 72 artists. HomeSpace, 1128 St. Roch Ave.

Sunday / Gone to market : The French Market Corporation and the Southern Food and Beverage Museum are hosting a free program highlighting the local cuisine of New Orleans. With Coolinary New Orleans in high gear, why not get a little more education on culinary culture on the cheap? There will be cooking demos, live music, and discussions on one of the most celebrate aspects of New Orleans culture. Stick around for A Taste of the Opera presented by the New Orleans Opera.
