The Poetic City: “For Telling the Truth Even When it Hurts Me” by Honey Sanaa

Editor’s Note: NolaVie invites poets and poetry organizations to join us in celebrating the burgeoning and versatile New Orleans community of verse. In coordination with poet and organizer Sam Gordon, we will publish weekly poems, orally and written, by and about this city we love. Please contact Kelley Crawford (kelley@nolavie.com) with suggestions.

This week we have Honey Sanaa’s poem “For Telling the Truth Even When it Hurts Me.” Honey performs regularly at the Slam New Orleans poetry slam and Open Mic every first Sunday of the month at the Ashé Cultural Arts Center (1712 O.C. Haley blvd.) You can also find her collections of poems, including her recently released chap book (published through local Louisiana publisher, Next Left Press), on her website.  Follow Honey Sanaa on Facebook, InstagramTwitter, and SnapChat (@HoneySanaa). She is also currently looking for corporate sponsorship.
