'The Big Issue' debate continues
The Big Issue, hosted by Tulane Hillel
, is a series devoted to open discussions about issues relevant to New Orleans.
Next up? Arts and gentrification in New Orleans.
On Thursday, June 6, The Big Issue asks, "Does Progress Destroy Culture?" Panelists overseeing the conversation include trumpet player Shamarr Allen, Tulane School of Architecture geographer Richard Campanella, jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis, journalist Katy Reckdahl and hospitality executive Mike Valentino.
As the series planners explain it, the current economic boom raises serious questions about the continued viability of New Orleans as an authentic cultural epicenter. Tonight's conversation will tackle questions regarding how gentrification and urban and economic development impacts New Orleans culture.
This third installment of The Big Issue will take place Thursday, June 6 at The Mintz Center, 912 Broadway Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the program starting at 7:30.
