Selected work from artist Jan Gilbert’s “30 Years / 30 Blocks:…”

Today we present the work of Jan Gilbert excerpted from a book that acompanies her latest exhibition, “30 Years / 30 Blocks: a retrospective installation of place and public artworks,” opening tonight, June 9th, at The Front gallery (4100 St. Claude Avenue).

For three decades Jan has created public artwork around the New Orleans area. Her show at The Front displays past work with new photographs and a plan for a future series of public work.

Of her latest photographs, Jan writes: “The architectural nuances that expose layers of life and function of [The Front’s] building have become a parallel narrative underscoring certain contextual attributes of the thirty works [on display].”

“30 Years / 30 Blocks:…” will be up through July 8, 2012. For more information, visit www.nolafront.org. You can also discover more of Jan’s work at www.jangilbertart.com.
