PHOTOS: Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings at House of Blues - 3/15/2011
Sharon Jones taught us many moves on Tuesday night, including the Camel Walk, the Funky Chicken and how to Tighten Up before bringing the train into New Orleans (you kind of just had to be there - the video below should help illustrate). The wild child artista invited a host of lucky ladies in the crowd onstage for a dance party and showed that the original sounds of Motown are not only alive and well, but still thriving in a big way.
Jones' upbringing in the same hometown as the Godfather of Soul (Augusta, Ga.) was no surprise to hear at the show, as Jones conducts herself and her Dap-Kings at the very same high level of perfection, demanding a well-choreographed perfection from her band unseen on most nights at the House of Blues. Despite complaining of a sinus infection, Jones' show(wo)manship didn't suffer whatsoever and she fed off the infectious energy emanating from the pit area. Whether you're 25 or 75, I wouldn't recommend missing Sharon and her Dap-Kings the next time the train rolls through this town, truly a show for all ages.
