Photos: Funky METERS Headline Fess Jazztival Kickoff Party at Tip’s

On Saturday night, it was hard to tell that the confetti-laden dust had just settled at the corner of Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas. There was a large buzz in the air as the funky METERS headlined a “Fess Jazztival” (Tipitina’s annual night series of concerts during Jazz Fest) kickoff party with help from New Breed Brass Band.

Playing a setlist mostly comprised of Meters originals (“Soul Island”, “Fire on the Bayou” and “Ain’t No Use” to name a few of the classics the quartet hit), the quartet took the crowded house at Tipitina’s deep into the night, showcasing the fact that this now quarter-century deep touring outfit is still viable and flourishing.

Now that we are all gearing up for Jazz Fest, there is going to be much to fill our ears and interest our eyes. Here’s some shots from the Meters’s show that will fulfill at least one of those.
