Confessions of an Instagram Ninja:Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign
"And the sign said anybody caught trespassin' would be shot on sight..."
So go the lyrics to a popular song by 70s Canadian rock group Five Man Electrical Band (who, according to their website, are still touring and recording. Who knew?) But naturally, I digress.
"Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?"
If you grew up, as I did, during the '60s and '70s, that song symbolized the younger generation's rebellion against authority. At least, that's how we perceived it, in between tokes.
"So I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign..."
Now that the '60s generation has aged and mellowed (speaking for myself, anyway), let's face up to the fact that signs -- even those of the "do this, don't do that" variety -- sometimes exhibit a certain amount of artistic or nostalgic beauty.
Especially signs here in the Big Easy.
"Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me. I'm alive and doin' fine."
Here's my gallery of signs found in and around New Orleans (if you'd like, here are the lyrics to "Signs" for you to sing along. You know you want to):
