NolaVie Featured Artist: Photographer and Curator Sophie T. Lvoff

Sophie T. Lvoff was born in 1986 in New York, NY. After receiving her BFA in Photography and Philosophy from NYU she moved to New Orleans to teach kindergarten and attend graduate school at the University of New Orleans. She also teaches photo workshops and classes in the New Orleans area. In her work, she values what she learns through travel and tries to "photograph the light dawning on an emotional landscape."

Both of Lvoff's objectives, photographing and curating, have equal importance to her. She is curating Grant v. Lee at Good Children Gallery, where she is a member, next month.

From Lvoff's statement about the show, "Matthew Brady and Timothy O’Sullivan emerged as important photographers who made both portraits and landscape work at the [Civil War] time. The photographs of the ruins of cities and carnage of battle brought the
horrors of the war from the battlefield to homes across the nation for the first time. Grant v. Lee privileges the medium of photography to pay homage to Brady, O’Sullivan and their contemporaries, while also showcasing other media." Look for more coverage of the exhibition on NolaVie.

Grant v. Lee opens Saturday, June 11, 6-10 pm at Good Children Gallery, 4037 St. Claude Ave. The reception will feature a performance by Jeremy JF Thompson.
