Nola live music letter

Editor’s Note: There is so much live music in New Orleans, and sometimes it can be rather overwhelming to know what to hear, where to go, or what to do. Writer and music lover Wesley Hodges is giving weekly previews of the live music happening in New Orleans as well as some sneak previews into what is coming up. Dr. John returns to Tipitina’s this Tuesday (12/27) & Wednesday (12/28)

Hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season thus far and has locked down some musical plans to help send off 2016 in style this week. If not, peruse the list of shows down below and hopefully you’ll find something to your liking. There are plenty of options for those sticking around New Orleans on New Years Eve (see below) and a couple of Dr. John shows starting tomorrow night for those wanting to see Mac Rebennack and his band The Lower 911 hold court at Tipitina’s.

If you’re looking to make a donation this week before the calendar flips, consider theTipitina’s Foundation or the Second Harvest New Orleans Food Bank to help strike out hunger in the Big Easy.

New Music

– The great Nine Inch Nails just released a five-song EP titled Not The Actual Events on 12/23 and, by all accounts, NIN should be hitting the road hard in 2017 after 2+ years on the shelf. Atticus Ross (Trent Reznor’s frequent soundtrack collaborator – The Social NetworkThe Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl) will be joining the band as an official member! One of the greatest live acts out there and looking forward to seeing some tour dates hopefully very soon.

– Run The Jewels dropped Run The Jewels 3 on Christmas Day, giving fans a nice holiday surprise and something to help wean off the onslaught of Christmas music over the past few weeks. Killer Mike and El-P continue to maintain a high remarkably high level of quality with their third full-length
