Nola creature features: Snappy returns to the wild

Creature features: because NolaVie loves all the wild animals that make up this city. Congrats, Snappy. We are cheering for you!

Snappy the pelican takes off above from The Fly (aka the Riverview at Audubon Park) after receiving a little TLC from the Audubon Zoo veterinary staff. The brown pelican, covered beak to tail with an oil-like substance, was rescued late last month by members of a crew boat near Southwest Pass. Senior zoo veterinarian Robert MacLean oversaw a thorough cleaning with detergent and water, followed by fluids, a hand-fed fish diet, x-rays and blood work. Three weeks later, Snappy was ready to take wing back into the wild.
