Let’s play NOLA!

lets play1

For three days this weekend in three area parks, anyone will be able to sit down at a piano and play, even if they don’t know how. So if you wish you’d never quit those lessons your mother made you take, or you’re more than able to trot out a tune, the folks at LaFargue Pianos are inviting you to stop by and make some music.

This is the second year that Let’s Play NOLA!, an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of the joys of playing music, is placing three beautifully painted Yamaha pianos out in public areas. While last year’s pianos were in more urban parts of New Orleans, Craig Cortello, Sales and Marketing Representative at LaFargue Pianos, says that some of those city sounds made it hard to hear them. So this year the pianos, covered with designs by a group of young creative students in the Ya Ya program, will be at park entrances: In Orleans at Audubon Park (the St. Charles Avenue entrance); City Park (near Storyland and City Putt); and in Jefferson Parish, at Lafreniere Park (near the Carousel).

The pianos will be delivered each day at 9 a.m. and will be in place until 5 p.m. And, says Craig, if this year is anything like the last, hundreds of passers-by will stop to either tinkle the keys themselves or listen to other who do.

“Last year was a tremendous mix; everything from chopsticks to Chopin,” says Craig Cortello, sales and marketing representative at LaFargue Pianos. “What I found amazing was that even folks on bicycles riding by just hopped off their bikes and played. And some of them were really great.”

So take the kids or be a kid yourself. It will make everyone smile.
