In the spotlight: ‘Oklahoma!’ on stage at Jesuit

Dominic Lloyd (Jud) listens to Matthew Dupré (Curly) sing ‘Poor Jud is Daid’ in the Jesuit production of Oklahoma!

When it comes to the diverse offerings of community theater in New Orleans, don’t overlook Jesuit High School’s top-notch spring musicals. This year the school’s Philelectic Society presents “Oklahoma!” Directed by Kate Arthurs, the play was the first musical written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, and follows a pair of romances in the Oklahoma Territory in 1906. Songs from the show you might recognize include “Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'” and “People Will Say We’re in Love.”

Performances take place tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Dinner by Hurricane BBQ ($5) will be available before tonight’s show.

Tickets are $15 for general admission ($10 for students) and $20 for reserved seating ($15 for students), and the box office opens at 6:30 p.m. today and Saturday and at 1 p.m. Sunday. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
