Four fitness startups to get your sweat on with in New Orleans
New Orleans is sweating it out. And we’re not talking about the summer heat.
With tons of health and fitness startups popping up all over the city, the New Orleans health and wellness scene is alive and well.
From specialty studios offering a unique mix of cardio classes, to a brand new rock climbing lounge. Forget about old gyms. These health loving entrepreneurs are giving New Orleans a new way to sweat.
We rounded up four health & fitness startups, so you can put that sweat equity in. No excuses.
Turbeaux fitness is an outdoor group training bootcamp class that takes places on the rooftop of the Rice Mill Lofts in the Bywater. Fitness instructor Alycia Angle started Turbeaux Fitness after taking a high intensity circuit training bootcamp. She says her body was completely transformed and she wanted to help others do the same.
The Sweat Social offers users 30-minute total body, group workouts overlooking the Mississippi river at Woldenberg Park. Co-founders (and husband and wife) Rupa and Monaj Mohan moved to New Orleans and started The Sweat Social after traveling for one year through Asia. Monaj says she gained a understanding of the challenges people face when trying to continue their health and fitness goals while traveling. They want to provide a fast, effective workout for travelers that connects them to their destination in an authentic way.
Higher Power Nola offers studio go-er’s a mixture of 30-minute high intensity spin classes, followed by 30 minutes of yoga. The mid-city studio was opened by fitness trio Mark Berger, Brian Baum and Charlie Thomas. Their signature class is Bicycling Buddha, a full body workout combining 30-35 minutes of indoor cycling with 30-35 minutes of Power Vinyasa Yoga. They offer themed cycling classes choreographed to local music artists, like their upcoming Hot Boys themed class, which will coincide with the LilWeezyana festival. Dance party on a bike? We’re in!
New Orleans Boulder Lounge is an indoor bouldering gym, fitness center and community space that Eli Klarman, a 26-year-old Tulane University graduate opened last weekend in the Lower Garden District on Tchoupitoulas.
What used to be the Cotton Press building, a 125-year-old warehouse, now boasts 2,500-square-feet of bouldering and climbing walls, a yoga studio and fitness center to come, and a lounge with a café and live music.
