Food Porn Friday: Law and order and bacon

The bacon caramel sundae at The Green Goddess.

In the landmark Supreme Court obscenity case Jacobellis v. Ohio (1964), http://www.vianolavie.org/2012/06/riffing-on-the-tradition-thank-you-mr-buffett-80488.html

I therefore submit to you, your honors, the above, Exhibit A: The BACON CARAMEL SUNDAE at The Green Goddess.

I recently visited my old friend Paul Artigues, Green Goddess’s chef/owner, and had a fantastic meal, as was expected (much more – and additional food porn – here).  However, it was when he suggested dessert that my head all but exploded.  “Yeah,” he said, “I created the bacon caramel sundae.”

Said Artigues, “I was walking around the corner with a tray full of bacon, and one of the cooks had a big plate full of caramel, and we bumped into each other, and we both said, ‘You got bacon in my caramel!  You got caramel on my bacon!”  And that’s how it happened.”  The sundae features Creole Creamery’s coffee pecan brittle ice cream, bacon-caramel, bacon bits, and is topped with black Hawaiian salt and pink Himalayan salt, whipped cream, and a Luxardo cherry.

Did he say “bacon caramel?”  As in, “caramel made with bacon fat?”  Oh, yes he did.  Maybe a little sheepishly, and of course recognizing the monster of his own, dementedly inspired design, but for the record, not once did this man deny responsibility.

Is it obscene?  Perhaps.  Delicious?  Undoubtedly.

Your honors, I believe I rest my case.
