Films put the labor back into Labor Day

Cinema Reset brings the message of labor back to Labor Day with three thought-provoking documentaries plus a special Open Screen, New Orleans showing of original shorts.

The program, “Heroes: A Labor Day Screening Event,” will take place Monday, Sept. 1, from 3 to 9 PM at the Press Street Miniplex, 3718 Saint Claude Ave., New Orleans. Admission is free and open to the public. Here’s the full schedule:

3 p.m. — Union Maids, an Oscar-nominated 1976 documentary about three women who organized the labor movement in 1930s Chicago.
4 p.m. — Maquilapolis: City of Factories, a 2006 documentary that examines the lives of factory workers in Mexico to illuminate globalism.
5:30 p.m. — Open Screen, New Orleans. Those who want to screen an original short film should arrive by 5:15 to reserve a slot.
7:00 p.m. — American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs, an award-winning documentary about the extraordinary 99-year-old Detroit-based activist.
