Event pick: Party on the patio, for a cause

Dropping by Commander’s Palace on a fine fall afternoon is never a bad idea. But today it will make a difference far beyond the pleasures for your palate.

On Oct. 25, the home of Commander’s sous chef Jay Wells and his wife Cindy caught fire, leaving physical and emotional devastation in its wake. So the restaurant is holding a benefit for the couple, with proceeds going to gift certificates for them to buy new possessions.

Party on the Patio takes place today, Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., at Commander’s Palace, 1403 Washington Ave. For $25, visitors will be treated to Far Niente varietals from Nickel and Nickel vineyard, as well as hors d’oeuvres from Chef Tory McPhail.

No reservations are necessary, and guests are asked to enter through the side garden gate. To make a donation or for more information, call 207-1349 or visit www.commanderspalace.com.
