Culture Collision 4 is a go

As New Orleanians usher out Isaac, they are ushering in the cultural season. Despite rain, wind and power outages, Culture Collision 4 is on.

The Fourth Annual Culture CollisionA City-Wide Celebration will kick off the Cultural Season in New Orleans Wednesday, September 5. Generations Hall, with more than 50 arts organizations, DJ Matty, food and giveaways.

For one night only and under one roof, local arts lovers can not only help kick off the 2012-2012 arts season but also get the skinny on more than 50 local cultural organizations and their upcoming offerings. It’s a one-of-a-kind happy hour — and it’s free — where attendees can scope out upcoming events, take advantage of exclusive ticket promotions, and meet like-minded arts lovers.

Culture Collision 4 takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Generations Hall, with an after-party in the Big Room from 8 to 10 p.m.  Admission is free, and parking is available for $10 in the Fulton Street Garage.

More than 1,700 people turned out for last year’s event at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and with the new, larger location, this year’s Culture Collision is expected to generate an even greater turnout. All of the participating organizations will have tables located throughout the hall, local restaurants will provide complimentary light fare, and multiple cash bars will be on site. The event will also feature the musical stylings of DJ Matty, a favorite at local nightspots, including The Saint, Mimi’s, and The Saturn Bar. Giveaways courtesy of participating organizations will be ongoing throughout the evening. The cash bars will remain open throughout the after-party, featuring the avant-garde award-winning composer, pianist and singer Ratty Scurvics in the Big Room at 8 p.m., with his trio joining the performance at 9 p.m.

The event is hosted by WWNO and sponsored by OffBeat, Generations Hall and Canary Collective. It is organized by the Arts Council of New OrleansLouisiana Philharmonic Orchestra,  Loyola University Montage SeriesNew Orleans Ballet AssociationNew Orleans Museum of ArtNew Orleans Opera Association, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and Southern Rep.
