Aspen Santa Fe Ballet bows Saturday

Neon electric meets poetry in motion when the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet arrives for a performance Saturday at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.

Hot new talent Norbert De La Cruz III will open the show with Square None, his choreographic debut, a work that had one critic calling the young dancer “as much a poet as a craftsman.”

The evening’s centerpiece, Return to a Strange Land, is a seminal work by international dance icon Jirí Kylián. The piece creates a dramatic and beautiful atmosphere of longing and hope. The neon finale, Return to a Strange Land, is a seminal work by international dance icon Jirí Kylián.

The performance takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. Click here for tickets or more information. And to whet your appetite, we offer a gallery of photographs of this innovative company, which is returning to town after a virtuoso performance here in 2008.
