On Thursday, September 22, anticipation filled the air at Champion Square as hundreds of New Orleanians awaited Alabama Shakes to take the stage. The night breeze was a cool 80+ degrees, the beers were expensive and warm, and fans of Alabama Shakes packed their bodies tightly in hopes of getting closer to front woman – and possible goddess – Brittany Howard. Taking the stage, the band did not disappoint.
For over an hour, they dipped through blues riffs while Howard poured sweat and soul into her lyrics. The audience sang along, screamed in response, and at one point Howard confessed that there was no other place like New Orleans. We couldn’t agree more.
Alabama Shakes continues their tour up until the end of December, and New Orleans anxiously awaits their return. Until then, we have the honey sounds of their songs and the visuals of their dedication to keep us satiated.
