A night of revelations with NolaVie

NolaVie, a non-profit website that publishes original content about New Orleans culture at nolavie.com, as well as at our online partner NOLA.com, is holding a very cool event Friday night. The 11.11.11 Art PopUp party promises to be a night of REVELations (after all, it’s a once-in-a-century date). With a showcase of emerging artists who are adding their talents and energy to the local scene in a number of fields, this event promises something for everyone, will stimulate all the senses, and put you in the know of New Orleans culture.

The event takes place at Studio 3, a real Carnival warehouse in Mid-City (behind the American Can apartments) and an under-the-radar event venue with giant float figures, disco balls, a stage, will provide an eclectic backdrop to the high-energy event.

Here is some of the cutting-edge talent you can expect:

–Fashion by Alicia Zenobia will out-gaga Lady Gaga with her avant garde pieces. These looks will be launched with body suits and outrageous head gear, and showcased with dancing and interactions with the crowd.

— Live music by Robin Barnes, a young New Orleans jazz singer with an edgy voice and great vocal, backed at the event by the Soul Heirs.  You can expect a creative twist to some of your favorite songs, such as Kanye West’s Heartless.

— Food by Geaux Plates will be available. Run by Henry Pulitzer, another young New Orleanian, this is the latest in the food truck trend taking shape around the city. Grilled cheeses or Vietnamese entrees, he caters it all — on wheels.

— Other entertainment includes DJ Frank from Jean Eric, Poetry To Go by poetess Emily Yonke, artists and a few techie surprises.

The PopUp starts at 8, and ends at 11 on 11.11.11 for a cover of (you guessed it) $11, which includes all the entertainment  plus your first drink. All of the proceeds of the event will go to support this online showcasing of New Orleans talent. (For more about the cosmic properties of 11.11.11, click here.)
